Salov and the environment
Salov has always been committed to reducing the environmental impact of its production process
In 2004, our headquarters moved to Massarosa, in the province of Lucca, in the Natural Park area of Lake Massaciucoli.
The plant overlooks a natural landscape – as natural is the raw materials we process within.
Over the years, an environmental management system has been implemented to monitor and minimize business impact.
Exhaust manifolds carry odorous emissions to abatement systems.
A scrubber and a carbon filter take care of the abatement of the odorous emissions.
These fundamental tools used within the distilling and refining processes, promote energy savings.
A trigeneration plant powered by natural gas is able to produce in an integrated cycle electric, thermal and cooling energy, reducing the amount of electricity pulled from the network.
Four new boilers are now planned, equipped with an automatic supervision system. These modulate heat levels and limit waste.
A biological treatment facility ,downline from the chemical-physical section, will purify water.
In the area adjacent to the refining plant we have established a beehive: bees are excellent biological markers because they indicate levels of pollution. By monitoring their life cycles, Salov is able to determine the environmental impact of production phases
In 2013, the move from glass to PET packaging for part of our range enabled significant energy savings and a reduction in CO2 emissions.
- 60% less energy needed for the bottle production
- 75% less CO2 emissions due to the reduction of energy used during transport
- Waste reduction in terms of weight (18x less than glass) and volume (3x less than glass)
- Packaging is completely recyclable, including the label and cap
- Carbon emissions for PET are 80% lower than glass
In order to guarantee the reduction of plastics entering the environment, in 2018 Salov decided to replace all external plastic packaging with a totally recycled and environmentally sustainable material.
